Our Greatest Naysayer: The One In the Mirror

Have you ever tried to accomplish a goal or take the next step in a difficult process, and found yourself talking yourself out of it? You decided to exercise first thing in the morning…and then you find your brain turning around and telling you not to bother getting up. You decided you were going to read more nonfiction books, but as you look over the nonfiction book selections, you get overwhelmed and use that as an excuse not to pick one. Life goes on, and we cave in to this resistant thought process in our minds that tells us not to bother. Or that we can’t do it. Or, worse, that we amount to nothing and that no one loves us.

Know what I’m talking about?

Yeah. Oftentimes, my biggest resistor and naysayer is myself.

Climbing Mountains

I’ve been told that you’re not supposed to share goals, because people can be amazingly discouraging about your own personal goals. That being said, I will tell you that I have a weight loss goal for 2015, and that I’m halfway to my goal.

And I’ve plateaued. For like a month.

The anxiety is settling in. The doubt is rising. The “I can’t do this” and “I’m doomed to fail” thoughts are surfacing again.
